A child psychologist, psychiatrist, developmental pediatrician or pediatric neurologist can diagnose autism. According to the CDC, a child must have challenges in each of three areas of social communication and interaction plus at least two of four types of restricted, repetitive behaviors. More information can be found here.
To begin care with Songbird, please book a free consult with us, call us at 833-940-2707, or email at hello@songbirdcare.com. Our Family Guidance Associates will follow-up with you within 24-48 hours. Unlike other providers who can take 18+ months to begin at-home care, Songbird families can start care within several weeks.
Songbird takes an individualized approach to autism care. We design care plans to support each child's unique goals. Our naturalistic, play-based approach best supports each child's learning style! This allows us to provide care in weeks compared to the industry average of 18 months. Furthermore, our care team is carefully trained to foster and nurture ongoing relationships with our children, families, and providers.
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the leading evidence-based form of autism therapy that promotes positive reinforcement of helpful behaviors. ABA identifies target behaviors, implements programs to reinforce those behaviors, and encourages children to independently master those skills. ABA is also used to improve attention, focus, social skills, memory, and academics. You can find more information about ABA therapy at Autism Speaks.
Both occupational and speech therapy focuses on targeting specific behaviors. The goal of ABA is to promote change across multiple developmental domains and apply skills to social interactions. This comprehensive approach provides children with personalized tool-kits to overcome unique cognitive, communicative, social, and emotional challenges in ways that are meaningful to the child and their families.
Songbird's naturalistic approach to therapy supports children to grow and develop skills in environments they are most comfortable in. This approach uses play to motivate behavioral change, putting children first. This approach to therapy put children at the center of care, while building skills to promote positive, meaningful change.
Songbird provides all therapy one-on-one and in your family's home, where your child is most comfortable. Sometimes, we additionally provide parent training and supervision of therapy via telehealth. There are many benefits of this approach for families. Some include:
Ease for parents or extended family to join parent training sessions from work or other locations.
Increased flexibility for families to access the care team and therapists
Rapid therapy plan adjustments, so care can be more accurate and organic
Increased flexibility for care teams and therapists, reducing clinical burnout
Currently, Songbird accepts most insurance plans (over 100 are accepted). If you are located in California, we also accept Medicaid plans. If you have specific questions about your policy and coverage, please submit an interest form on our website or email us at hello@songbirdcare.com—we'd love to help.
